Please to the white South African from Observatory, your comments stink of racism. This countries biggest downfall is the fact that people like you see other people as white, black and coloured please start looking at everyone as HUMANS!! Dont we afterall all have the same colour blood? Its just the wrapping that is diiferent, and doesnt classify people in hierachy of importance.

GROW UP!!!

The Somali shopkeers needs state protection.
If any members of their community get murdered

Hello,
I have been following the sorry situation. Can't help until August as I am in UK. Please contact Church of Holy Spirit, Kirstenhof. One of the elders there, Simon, promised to visit Pastor Alain while I was away. Margaret Spicer

Dadier,

"Back Home with a Message", is a really powerful piece of work. It is
an honest, brutal and poetic portrayal of the indignities of refugeedom. It is a
perspective, that up until now has not been explored. Thank you for this.

Thank you again.

I am in Cape Town until 26th July and am happy to assist whenever needed before that. I work on refugee and asylum issues in the UK and have been involved for the past 4 years - as a volunteer, not paid professional. I am quite experienced in most aspects of the refugee process now and have done lots of research on country information to support peoples' legal claims, mostly on the following African countries: DRC & Congo (Brazzaville), Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Angola & Cabinda, Zimbabwe, Niger, Sudan, Malawi, Togo, Nigeria. I speak very basic French and few welcoming words in many lanuages! I have contacts from amongst a network of people active on these issues in the UK who might be called upon for advice or for networking.
Contact numbers: 021 797 6946 OR 021 797 0108 & cell - 0745727076

Hi Joanna,
All volunteers were asked to withdraw from the camp for their own safety by the Refugee Leadership Cttee following a disastrous meeting with UN representatives on June 7th which precipitated the hunger strike. After the alleged suicide attempts on June 8th, the volunteers were not allowed to return by provinicial govt. After persistent petitioning by longterm volunteers, this ban was waived about 2 weeks ago, but because of repeated govt. statements that the camp would be closed, the volunteer effort was not reactivated until this week. In the interim period, the longterm volunteer core drafted an improved disaster management plan, to ensure the safety and dignity of both volunteers and refugees, and new volunteers will be briefed accordingly. Re: medical care, I have been assured by the volunteer liaison person on the ground that there are at least 2 medical people in the camp every day, but there is no tent available for them, so medical resources are kept at the stores. (The majority of tents in the lower camp blew down in the last big storm, so the people are concentrated in upper camp tents.) When I get a moment (!) I will be updating you all with a chronology of the last couple of weeks' events - but bear with me as I am single-parenting at the moment as my husband is away on tour for 6 weeks, and now the kids are off school! The good news is we went to Parliament today and someone LISTENED - that's the first person in authority to listen to the RLC in 6 weeks! Thanks for all the info you sent me - I will get round to loading everything eventually.
Cheers,
Sam
